Track Bending !
Hey Guys,
Started trying to bend track today, by making a jig and cooking some track

Early results are promising, but I over cooked it at 10min @120deg.C
seems so far 5 mins aint enough...

Re: Track Bending !
you can see this track is cooked !
as it gets hotter it tends to move in a way thats not desired ! cant make it out well, but one of the slots (left hand) has collapsed !

But the curve is rather good !

Re: Track Bending !
Just went for 7mins at 120deg.C and it worked rather well, but started to twist a little...
result is a slight wiggle in the lane... not ideal, but good progress !
i think i need lower temp and longer times, as the time seems down to the 30seconds !

the radius of this piece seems very similar to the 1st bit, so thats a good thing !

Re: Track Bending !
to show the height of the bend !
was the closest thing at hand

seems 100deg is a safer temp..
just waiting for a bit to cool and see how it went...

Re: Track Bending !
100degC is great... this is after about 15mins of simmering...

Not as bent as the piece in the back ground, but far straighter !!

Re: Track Bending !
but most importantly the rails are straight !!

Anyone want a piece of track bent the other way and make a HUGE loop??

hmm, gotta try the inverted bit of track now..

Re: Track Bending !
hmm, seems 15 mins in 1 go is too much !
as in inner bit i just did is a bit wobbly !!
i think 2 sessions of 5-7 mins is good at 100*C..

however if anyone is looking to make a track for cars with suspension i think i have some bits of track to suit

thanks to Geoff for donating the track for this little experiment !!

Wow, Dave's done wonders for his post count.

Hehe, the bumpy track section is a rather good impression of UK roads. All you need for that now is a nice E-Type or something horribly similar and you're set.

The Hill !
With bent track !
End result is rather good ! i should get a side on pic to show the angles better... But its much more driveable than the old hill !

For anyone thats interested the radius where it drops down is enough to make a low car bottom out ! Blue lane is the worst for this...

Re: Track Bending !
Looks great ....

So you can drive it slowly, but how far can you launch a car when you try?
